Oklahoma City Ballet’s Giselle Brings

Passion and Romance for Valentine’s Day

Boston Ballet Guest Performers to Dance Principal Roles

OKLAHOMA CITY— Oklahoma City Ballet brings one of the most famous ballets of all time Giselle, to the Civic Center Music Hall Stage February 5th and 6th at 8 p.m.  Principal artists from the prestigious Boston Ballet, Misa Kuranaga and James Whiteside, will be dancing the lead roles of Giselle and Albrecht.

Giselle is part of the OKC Ballet’s commitment to bring outstanding ballets and outstanding talent to Oklahoma City in a new spirit of innovation and creativity,” said Roberts Mills, OKC Ballet Artistic Director.

The story of Giselle is a timeless and magical blend of romance, mystery and intrigue.  The ballet swirls around the young peasant girl Giselle and quickly escalates into a complex story of torn lovers, broken hearts, vengeful spirits, untimely death and love from beyond the grave.

This full-length classical ballet is a favorite among ballet lovers around the world. The Adolphe Adam score will be performed live by the Oklahoma City Philharmonic.

The role of Giselle will be performed by Boston Ballet’s principal dancer Misa Kuranaga. Kuranaga is an International Ballet Competition winner. She won a gold medal in the Junior Division of the Ninth Moscow International Ballet Competition and a gold medal in the senior division of the 2006 USA International Competition. She is requested internationally as a guest artist. James Whiteside brings a strong, athletic dance style to his performances and has performed lead roles in over thirty professional ballets.

“These are amazing ballet dancers. The lead role of Giselle is considered one of the greatest roles a ballerina can perform and Misa will bring a magnificent level of artistry to the role that will draw the audience’ hearts and souls into the story of Giselle,” continued Mills. “With lavish sets and exquisite costumes, Giselle will renew your belief in life and love that never dies.”
